10 online workshops, over 200 students and 10 schools involved
As part of the project dedicated to gamifying civic education for young people in the Republic of Moldova and Armenia, the Centre for Research and Advocacy in the Republic of Moldova (CRAE) organised 10 online workshops for over 200 students from 10 schools across the Republic of Moldova.
The workshops provided a space for dialogue and learning about civic engagement, democracy, and the role young people can play in their communities. Beyond concepts and definitions, students were encouraged to explore their own communities, identify real problems and needs, and think about solutions they can develop together.
From ideas to community action plans
The next step is for each of the 10 participating schools to develop a local action plan, starting from a need identified within their own community.
In this way, students will move from discussing civic participation to putting it into practice: they will identify a problem, propose solutions, determine the necessary steps, and work together to turn their ideas into action.
Learning about democracy through play: EcoVille
To make the learning process as interactive as possible, students will have the opportunity to play EcoVille, a game that puts them in situations where they have to make decisions and better understand how a community functions, as well as the importance of collaboration, participation, and the choices we make together.
In EcoVille, you become a member of a local council and make important decisions about the future of your city. You represent an imaginary political party and, together with the other players, find solutions to challenges related to the environment, resources, and the well-being of the community. The player who succeeds in allocating the most resources to their priority areas through arguments, debates, and negotiations with the other players wins the game.

The “Cross-Border Civic Resilience Through Gamified Democratic Education for Youth” project aims to strengthen civic participation and knowledge of democracy and the rule of law among young people in the Republic of Moldova and Armenia. The proposed activities focus on topics that are relevant to young people, such as environmental protection and climate change, in order to encourage debate, critical thinking, and civic engagement.
The project is coordinated by the Centre for Research and Advocacy in European Affairs (Republic of Moldova), in partnership with the Armavir Development Center (Armenia).
