EcoCivic: Youth Virtual Exchanges for Climate Action and Civic Participation

Project implementation: February 2026 – February 2029

Almost eight in ten EU citizens perceive climate change as a major problem. However, there is still an uneven distribution of awareness and engagement among Member States, regions, and demographic groups — particularly by age, gender, education, and socio-economic status. Furthermore, there is a growing gap between the public awareness of climate risks and their active participation in shaping climate and environmental policies. EcoCivic project proposes to address these challenges by equipping youth, youth workers, and educators with the knowledge, tools, and opportunities to participate meaningfully in the green transition. The initiative ensures that no one is left behind in the EU’s climate agenda by promoting awareness and direct action through structured virtual exchanges, moderated online dialogues, co-creation workshops, and collaborative campaigns.

EcoCivic project

EcoCivic aims to engage over 2,000 young people aged 14–30 from Romania, Moldova, Armenia, and Luxembourg, with a strong focus on inclusion. Special attention is given to reaching youth from underrepresented and marginalized backgrounds, including those with fewer opportunities to participate in civic or international initiatives. By using interactive toolkits and educational games such as Ecoville, we aim to support key skills such as civic involvement, critical thinking, intercultural communication, and environmental awareness—building a foundation for long-term civic engagement.

Interactive learning that makes sense

At the core of EcoCivic is a hands-on, engaging learning approach. Young people explore environmental and civic topics through:

  • interactive toolkits tailored to urban sustainability
  • educational boardgames like Ecoville
  • 50+ selected schools and youth groups to join the project
  • 50+ online workshops and moderated discussions
  • 30+ events, debates and direct exchanges with youths, schools, public authorities

Youth-led action plans

EcoCivic supports youth involvement and action. Participants work together to design and implement their own initiatives, responding to local environmental challenges they identify themselves.

The project will deliver:

  • 50+ youth-designed action plans responding to environmental needs in ther community
  • 20+ small-scale youth-led interventions in their communities
  • 20+ mentorship campaigns
  • practical solutions addressing issues like recycling, pollution, and green urban spaces

Stronger voices, stronger communities

ECOCIVIC contributes to building more inclusive and participatory communities by strengthening the role of young people in public life. By connecting climate action with civic engagement, the project supports a new generation of active citizens who are informed, empowered, and ready to engage with decision-makers.Ultimately, we aim to demonstrate that when young people are given the right tools, space, and support, they can play a key role in shaping sustainable cities—and in driving the green transition forward.
